The Best Books of Summer 2023

Whether you’re an Emily Henry stan, a Lisa Jewell girlie, or somewhere in the middle like me, this list of books is what you need to finish out your hot book summer!

I’m a mood reader and that often leaves me with a questionable looking book stack at the end of each month. It’s only right that my favorite books of summer would also be from varying genres.

I enjoyed sweet romcoms, wholesome warm fuzzies, wild and unhinged thrillers, precious love stories, and sharp literary fiction. Rest assured there is something in this stack for you!

MEET CUTE by Helena Hunting

This sweet Romantic Comedy was my perfect sweet spot. It’s full of plot with a sprinkle of spicy. This is a backlist title that I read with my backlist book club and binge-read it in a day!

THE WISHING GAME by Meg Shaffer

Oh, my heart! This book is a combination of The House in the Cerulean Sea and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. It’s hopeful and loving and will leave you with a sense of comfort!

STRANGE SALLY DIAMOND by Liz Nugent

This thriller is going to keep you on your toes until the very end! For fans of trapped thrillers like The Quiet Tenant and Last Thing to Burn, this is a must read, totally bingeable story of Sally’s rediscovery of her childhood.

THE SPANISH LOVE DECEPTION by Elena Armas

Slow burn romance, enemies-to-lovers, witty banter galore, and just the tiniest spice. All ingredients to make the perfect summer read! I loved it so so much!

HELLO STRANGER by Katherine Center

I may be Katherine Center’s biggest fan! Not in a creepy way, I just made her an embroidery of her booktwice. Hello Stranger is absolutely adorable. This was my book club’s August pick! It’s one you can go into knowing it’s all going to work out beautifully in the end! For when you need to escape the world and find comfort in love, this is the one.

HAPPY PLACE by Emily Henry

This is THE book of summer. Fake dating, friends to lovers, friendships, growing up, growing together, growing apart. This book was an anthem to getting older and figuring out what you really want out of life. I loved it!

YELLOWFACE by R.F. Kuang

Literary fiction fans, this one is for you! This is a MUST READ book. A harsh reality of the publishing industry and social commentary surrounding race, identity, and intellectual property. It’s fascinating and sharp!

DEAD ELEVEN by Jimmy Juliano

If Horror intimidates you, let me introduce you to a book that may be the perfect introduction! It’s not too gory and filled with 90’s nostalgia. Set in 1994, everyone on Clifford Island seems to be living the same day over and over again. Are they stuck in a time loop or is something more sinister happening?

NONE OF THIS IS TRUE by Lisa Jewell

BEST THRILLER I’VE READ THIS YEAR. I was enthralled!! I read it in one day and was left stunned. BUY THIS BOOK.
