These Bookish Embroidery Patterns are the Key to Creating an Unplugged Hobby

It’s no secret that we live in a digital world filled with constant notifications vying for our attention, apps with algorithms that keep us scrolling longer and longer, and increasing data on the negative effects such access is having on our mental, physical, and emotional health.

So, how can we reframe the use of these devices to work for us instead of being something that forms us?

One of the best tricks I’ve found for putting my phone down (and keeping it down), to make my device work for me, is by using it as an audiobook tool and working on projects that keep my hands busy.

Projects like embroidery!

Embroidery has become my go-to activity for *actual* rest and self-care. I love pairing it with an audiobook and getting lost in a story. I set my phone on “Do Not Disturb” and can spend hours listening to a book and working on my craft!

I love that when it’s finished, I have a piece of art that I’ve created and feel proud of!

I don’t know how to embroider, is it hard?

No, it’s a very approachable hobby that anyone can pick up! Check out these short tutorial videos on the most common stitches! They’ll have you saying, “I can totally do that!”
